Brock Environmental Center
to Open this Fall
fter years of planning and months of construction,
CBF’s Brock Environmental Center in Virginia Beach
will open to the public this fall.
The center, named after donors Joan and
Macon Brock, will make history as the
most sustainable building in Virginia. It has
been designed to rely on the wind and the
sun for its power, supply all of its own
water, and treat the waste it generates.
Once open, the Brock Environmental
Center ( cbf.org/brock) will be more than a
building. It will demonstrate how all of us
can live, work, and play beside ecologically sensitive locations without causing
harm. It will be a destination for CBF’s
award-winning environmental education
programs—reaching thousands of local
students and teachers annually; a global
inspiration for cutting-edge green building; and a demonstration site for restoration projects that improve water quality.
CBF is indebted to everyone who has
helped make the Brock Environmental
Center a reality. This includes the dedicat-
ed volunteers on CBF’s Campaign
Committee who have worked steadfastly
to demonstrate the significance of this
project and encourage its success. This
effort would not be possible without Jane
Batten, Macon Brock, George Clarke,
Andrew Fine, Lucius Kellam, Harry Lester,
Wick Moorman, Bob Stanton, Bob Wells,
and Preston White. They have conferred
extraordinary vision, leadership, and sup-
port at every step.
