CHESAPEAKE BAY PROGRAM/FLICKR
It took my daughter, Helen, and me just a little more than an hour to get here
from Annapolis by car. The mystique of the park and pond was a pleasant surprise and well exceeded our expectations. After dropping our bags in the more-than-adequate, air-conditioned cabin, we headed straight to the boat rental area
where Courtney, also a park educator, set us up with a canoe.
We navigated the cypress swamp on the park’s wilderness canoe trail. Our two-hour
paddle took us deep into the swamp. The trail was narrow in places and we chose
to follow the helpful arrows nailed to trees here and there instead of our map.
