Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Shallow men believe in
luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect.” It is all of
us working together—not luck—that will determine if we
save the Bay.
We are seeing positive results of cause and effect
around the watershed. Collective efforts have measurably improved the health of Virginia’s Lynnhaven River
(page 6). The crab population in the Bay has nearly
tripled since Maryland and Virginia restricted the catch
of female crabs (page 14). And, Bay grasses are making
a comeback in the Potomac following upgrades at D.C.’s
Blue Plains sewage treatment plant.
Use your power to influence elected officials to stand up
for clean water. Call, write, or e-mail (page 2).
Inaction will not serve the Bay, our children, our wildlife,
or our economy. Let’s show our strength and believe that
our collective actions will save the Bay.
