A River Runs Through It
By Loren Anne Barnett
he Raystown Branch of the Juniata River dips down into Bedford County
from its origin near the Allegheny Front. It teases Breezewood with some
hard turns east before it folds back towards Bedford. The river first appeared
to my daughter Helen and me just west of our turn onto Route 30 and
continued to play peek-a-boo until we neared Bedford. There, Shobers Run branches
south, laying low in the valley of the Alleghenies. We followed Shobers to our destination: The Omni Bedford Springs Resort. It was already apparent that in this south-central county in Pennsylvania, following the rivers will lead you to great places.
