Finding Clean-Water Solutions
We all contribute to the impairment of our waters, so we should all
work together to clean them up.
In York County, Pennsylvania, we look for common requirements
between all sectors and municipalities. Instead of developing
individual plans to construct many small projects, we have developed
one regional pollution-reduction plan. All urbanized municipalities are required to
develop pollution-reduction plans and implement them on the ground. With this
approach, we have been successful funding and implementing more projects for less cost.
To meet new requirements, we are also developing a plan that would fund county water-
quality projects, help urbanized municipalities meet permit requirements, and help
farmers develop conservation plans and construct projects.
The goal is to work with York County municipalities and land owners to improve the
water quality of our streams and help our communities thrive economically.
For 50 years, CBF has been fighting for science-based
solutions to the pollution that plagues the Bay and its
rivers and streams. And, science says we’re making
progress. Water is clearer, oxygen levels are up, and
oysters and crabs are rebounding. It feels great to make
a difference, but we won’t rest until the job is done.
